An Indian woman's wardrobe is incomplete without a unique collection of Indian silk sarees. These sarees are generally worn in weddings and other events. Silk sarees of India's different states vary in style and design. Most popular Indian silk sarees include Kanchipuram, Banarasi, Bandhni, Patola, Thanchoi, Paithani, etc.

Banarasi - The Banarasi silk is one of the most beautiful and expensive sarees in India. Woven with gold and silver threads, it is available in a plethora of colors and designs. The four main types of Banarasis are - the sattir, the katari, the kora and the georgette. Some of the common designs on the sarees are floral designs, designs of animals, motifs and nature. The fabric is of superior quality. The pallu is done elaborately with detailed designing. A typical saree can take anywhere from 15 days to 1 month to complete.

Kanchipuram - Naturally hand-woven and of excellent quality, Kanchipuram sarees are world-famous. The vibrant colors and designs of these sarees have made them a must have in every woman's wardrobe. Some of the traditional designs found in the Kanchipurams are floral 'buttas', stripes, checks, and designs of temples and flowers. The three parts of the saree - the body, the border and the pallu are woven separately after which they are joined together. These sarees are well-known for their texture, durability and unparalleled beauty.

Paithani sarees - Elegant, luxurious and stylish, these sarees are made of metal and silk. The colors are derived from natural sources such as leaves, flowers, and soil.

Bandhni - Bandhni sarees are popular in Gujarat and Rajasthan. They are made of the traditional system of tie and dye, also known as bandhej. The saree features several patterns and designs which gives it a unique appearance.

Thanchoi - These sarees feature attractively decorated pallus and have no borders. They are woven specifically in Benares.

Patola silk - These sarees are well-known for their beautiful vibrant colors and geometric designs. They are made exclusively in Gujarat.

Tussar silk - Textured, unique and beautiful, these sarees are not as durable as the other silk sarees. Tussar silk is still bought by many women as they have an appeal of their own. Their dull gold shine makes them apt to be worn on several occasions.
While in the earlier times silk was regarded as the fabric of the elite class, these days it is available to almost every one. People can buy these Indian silk sarees from several online and offline clothing stores that offer a wide range of exotic silk sarees to the Indian women.
